Welcome to Marlatt Outdoors (Marlatt.org)

Bob Marlatt’s Outdoor Adventures & Scouting Memories

I grew up exploring the mountains of north central Idaho and have a lifelong passion for the outdoors. As a Scoutmaster for over 25 years, I’m excited to share my scouting experiences, outdoor skills, and cooking expertise with you.

On this site, you’ll find:

  • Scouting Stories – Relive my adventures from over two decades as a Scout leader and trainer. Learn about the impact scouting has had on me and the young men I’ve mentored.
  • Dutch Oven Recipes – Get tips and tricks for cooking up delicious camp meals in a Dutch oven. I’ve honed my skills feeding scout troops on camping trips and cooking at large events.
  • Outdoor Skills – Master essential skills like fire building, knot tying, navigation and more with my step-by-step tutorials. I’ll show you everything you need to know for your next hiking or camping trip.
  • Hunting Tales – Read the extensive collection of annual hunting stories written by my uncle Paul Marlatt from 1943-2001. Experience some of Idaho’s rich outdoor heritage through these entertaining firsthand accounts.

My goal is to inspire fellow outdoor enthusiasts and scout leaders by sharing knowledge and memorable experiences from my many years of scouting, hunting and backcountry adventures. I’ll be posting new stories, recipes, and skills regularly so check back often! Please contact me if you have any questions or want to share your own outdoor tales. Happy trails!

Paul Marlatt wrote some 70 hunting stories of their hunting trips from the 1940 through 2010.  This is a wonderful description of hunting deer and elk in Idaho.

Large-scale events require planning, lots of planning. An event is much more than a large camp and must be approached from the multiple lenses of risk management, project management, program management with an eye to program quality, safety, any potential conflicts of interest and fiscal responsibility. The planning, organization and execution of major events includes many stakeholders, and these stakeholders must work together to result in a successful event .
